Yes I completely agree with the results we see here. Wild Rick was epic.

It disappoints me to see Carl having to face Rick, whom he thought was dead for a moment, with the lowest. That is still one of the most emotionally charged moments in the comics, a kid resigning his fate to death because he’s too scared to be by himself, and I think Chandler did fantastically with it.

agreed This was a great moment in the book and it was done very well on the show. Probably so low because a lot of people hate Carl in the show.

I feel like he was hated in season 2, but now he’s one of the best characters! I haven’t heard much Carl hating since then.

It still pops up. People thinking he’s a brat or never listens. And it’s true he can be a bit more like this in the show sometimes. But I think most dislike for him that’s there is largely residual of the first two seasons.

I guess that’s true. It’s sad though. I was really starting to not like the show (which was all i knew at the time) during Season 2. Then i began reading the comics. It shed a whole new light onto the show, which changed my entire outlook once I sort of “got” what was happening. Carl is the entire essence of the series (both comic and show). As far as the haters because he’s being a brat, they also need to realize he’s a teenager on the show, and he’s basically acting how teenagers act. He’s definitely learning that he can’t be that way for long, though haha.

I think I like Carl less in the show because I’ve grown to like him more and more in the comic. Right now, they are two different characters to me.

          • Zeus says:

He’s on track to become Comic Carl though, from the looks of things. Same with Rick. I’m glad they put the bandit scene in the show. They need to start showing that Show Rick can be like Comic Rick, because Pre Bandit Show Rick would not be able to handle Negan in the slightest once they get there…

This is exactly what has me excited about S5! I wanna see that badass Carl emerge!

      • Robert Polk says:

Ait got my vote, though Rick was a close second. l think it is very likely it wasn’t voted highly because you cheered Rick on for ripping out Joe’s jugular — but you felt sad for Carl — most people will go for what makes them feel good over sad, no matter how well Chandler acted it out.

Disagree. I think Lizzie showing psychosis and killing her sister was an unexpected twist, and the most powerful moment and most clever adaptation. Seems like the results are a little skewed by what’s still fresh on everyone’s mind..

There will always be a freshness bias. I think if somehow the story were changed in sequence of events so much that Hershel’s (Tyreese’s) decapitation were the last breath of this season that would be the highest voted.

I took it as adaptation, not necessarily the moment itself. They were more changes with the Lizzie incident vs. Rick taking out the jugular.

That was one of the most shocking moments this season (Lizzie gutting Mika), whether it was part of the comic or not. I didn’t see it coming right away.

Rick going after Joe’s throat. I had no clue AMC would let them get away with such a savage scene which also happens to be a huge turning point in Rick and Carl’s characters.

Yeah I was worried AMC might be strict on the scene but nope they let it roll, I just hope they can get around the swearing coz a certain baseball bat carrying Psycho wont be the same. It also gives me hope AMC will pull of Preacher. Coz that is simply the greatest thing ever written.

I wasn’t worried about the throat tearing scene. When they showed Rick shooting that little girl walker thru the head in the first episode, that set the tone for the whole series, I knew they weren’t going to pull any punches. and someone commented about F-bombs…sorry dude, that’s still the one taboo tv will never break.

I thought Rick tearing out Joe’s throat was a great way to end Joe’s story line, although I didn’t want to see him leave the show. His was a character you loved to hate, as Jeff Kober did an awesome job on the show.

What the? The best moment adapted from the comic has to be the rick /carl moment. Chandler really captured carls extreme over confidence and vulnerability in that scene, cant beleive its down the bottom. A guess the throat bite is still fresh in everyones mind, which gives it its top place.

Lizzie and Mika easily. Rick tearing out Joe’s throat next.
Carl growing up would have been good if it wasn’t filled with whiny daddy-issues.

That… That was the entire essence of how you knew he grew up. It wouldn’t have been nearly as effective for Carl to break down like he did if he wasn’t previously angry. No, just no.

      • Jamie Parsons says:

He’d already grown up. He was ‘grown up’ all through season 3.
Carl’s whiny teenager crap was the second worst part of the season, after Beth’s ridiculous method of getting over her father – ‘rebellious’ teen moonshine drinking games and flipping off a burning house.

        • Jonathon Moreau says:

Daryl was the biggest issue in that episode, not Beth. But all teenagers do that shit. It’s part of the package. And Carl wasn’t “grown up” in season 3. He was “grown distant.” He was trying to be what he thought a grown up was. Now he’s breaking down into the person he needs to be, not the person he thinks he needs to be.

          • Jamie Parsons says:

I disagree. I never did it. And it’s not ‘all teenagers’. This is in an apocalyptic world where she lost her dad. They were trying to stay alive and the best way to do that is get drunk on moonshine and burn a house done? Idiotic episode.
If what Carl was in season 3 was distant then that’s what he was in 4.9. Those whiny ‘I don’t need you, you couldn’t even save Judith’ speeches were as immature as they come.

          • Jonathon Moreau says:

Angst, dude. Angst. That’s the point. It was immature and then Carl learned in the end that he’s wrong when faced with being alone. That was the growing up part.

It sucks that they had to change the last line of season 4 for TV. It should’ve been “They’re fucking with the wrong people.” I find it funny how you can show people getting there faces eaten off by walkers or having Rick rip another mans throat out with his teeth but you can’t say the word fuck. It’s pathetic that AMC won’t allow F-Bombs. How the hell are they going to have Negan on the show a few seasons from now without F-bombs?
