Whew, it’s ROUGH waiting an entire month for an issue! Forgot what that was like. But you’re patience has been rewarded with a brand-spanking new issue of TWD.
At the time of posting, most people have not had a chance to read the issue, so in an effort to keep spoilers to a minimum, this post will be missing discussion points for a bit. We’ll update midday Wednesday!
Once you HAVE read it, come back here and discuss it! We’re going to let Intern Stephan pick his favorite comment and that person will take home a signed copy (by Robert Kirkman) of the issue. Feel free to butter Intern Stephan up, bring your A game. Mostly I just want to see how he deals with disappointing every single commenter except for one.

I just read the wiki on this, without spoiling anything I have just one question, ware the hell is michoone at???
Michoone is probably not a commonly used name, and was never in the comic books before, so I assume she is not around. Michonne on the other hand might be at the Kingdom or Dead. I would like to see her dead though, kind of just forgotten about, no references or anything. It will add to the story.

Now that would be an interesting twist. Its just kinda strange that a character like her that is so popular hasn’t been mentioned since this new beginning time skip. Im sure in due time we well know, in the mean time it is fun to speculate! What do you think about this magna, do you think there are bad intentions with her group or could this be another baby face character?

It is sort of strange there hasn’t even been any mention; seeing as how she had grown so close to Rick and Carl after the prison and when the first arrived in ASZ. She’s always idolized Rick; she has mentioned her dedication several times. Most recently was actually the end of AOW; in #126 Michonne said “I’ve learned not to question you” and another time she remarked how Rick has kept her alive and she repays him by being willing to “follow him into the gates of hell themselves.”.
I know right, all they have been through and now this new direction and no word if her in these 2 issues. I really hope they dont get rid of her. There would really be a lot of disappointed fans if they did. We all know that no character is safe and any one can go at any time, so if something was to happen to her I would at least hope we would know what it was

MAGNA is going to be a serious character
when Magna wil see Negan , she will think Rick is the bad guy for emprisonning him in his basement.
It seemed like a slow spot in the story, but Manga seems like she is a strong person and will have some kind of interaction with Negan and then will butt heads with Rick.

This issue needed more badassery from Jesus and Michonne. Where the fuck is Michonne?? Probably living with Ezekiel in cray-cray town putting on productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
I really thought that Negan did change from the last issue but nope. “Fucking Fuck.” That is still the old Negan.
I still think he’s a changed, or changing man. Especially now that we know the time jump is possibly longer than two years. I actually think the use of Negan’s favorite profanity goes to further support the fact of his rehabilitation. Notice, he hasn’t used a single swear world, or even vulgar content when having his frequent sessions with Carl. But when Carl chided him, and rejected him as the friend Negan though he was; his response was one of genuine emotion and that is why the “Fucking Fuck” came out. After being wounded by Carl’s words, he longingly and painfully watches him leave. I’m sure that hurt; real hurt. Not some twisted false hurt that Negan is using to help him push his underhanded agenda. No, just hurt; like when a good friend lets you down. After all, I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that Carl has been literally the only person to give Negan the time of day; let alone pay him frequent visits, and have long and meaningful conversations with him where they both share their true feelings, opinions and emotions. Negan is definitely suffering, in more ways than one.
I can agree with you the Carl part. If Negan did change after the war. The only way to find out. If Negan does get out of those bars and his discussion better be to get away from the three communities and start a new life. My guess if he does escape from his jail. He wants vengeance for the person back stabbed him during the war.
I knew after reading it last night that some might complain that these two have been “slow”. I think Kirkman knew that too, which is why 127 and 128 were double length. AOW walla balls to the wall insane and adrenaline pumping, where I was quitekt literally afraid to turn the page and find out what was going to happen to these characters, well all the arcs have been tied up with a bow and bow Kirkman is setting the stage for new stories. I’m glad he did these as long issues rather than 4 normal issues, and he knew he probably couldn’t get away with four issues just laying ground work for a new plot. I wrote on here once before about how years later with a functioning society of various city-state like communities, we have the chance to explore, on a miniature scale, the politics behind international trade, and I think he is setting the stage for that a little. But more importantly, the arc looks like it will be about how rick handles someone who was in his exact position years ago. Magna is just like rick when rick first came to Alexandria, how does he handle ” another rick” so to speak.
So, I am definitely not liking Rick’s new look. It took me halfway through the issue to realize that’s who Eugene was walking with in the beginning of the issue! I felt pretty stupid when I realized I had forgot how Rick looked. I had to go back to the windmill pane and look for the prosthetic arm to make sure. This is really playing with my mind.
It’s super different but I love the hell out of all the physical changes in the characters and their appearances. They are keeping shit real. I dig it.
Rick’s transformation is great but I think my favorite has been emo, teenage Carl. If he had access to black nail polish I’m pretty sure he’d be using it.

I see a lot of Rick in Magna from when Rick first arrived in Alexandria. And sense Rick is the new Douglas…that doesn’t exactly mean anything good for Andrea and Carl. I believe that Magna will stumble upon Negan and come to the decision that Rick and his people can’t be trusted. I do find it odd that Magna says they encountered NO PEOPLE on the road from the distance they traveled…I think they are definitely hiding something. I felt bad for Eugene, but I do think Rosita is with him because Eugene is one of her only friends. Rick Grimes needs to tell those two guys that Walkers and Horses don’t mix.

I’m so surprised there hasn’t been more chatter about Kirkman stating in the Letter Hacks the time jump wasn’t two years and that Mackiewicz was incorrect and hasty in publishing that false information; and that the time jump is actually an undetermined amount of time that is most likely more than two years.
Guess we’ll find out when we see Maggie’s baby. If we ever do.
Yeah, Letter Hacks mention going into further detail about the time jump after the next issue. It has to mean we’ll see a child. I can certainly see Carl being older than 11…his height when he hugged Rick makes me think he’s a tad older.

1. HaHa! I knew Negan was tryin to get in Carl’s head for something he wanted. No fuckity fucking way asshole! Still the same Negan! Manipulative bastard.
2. Damn…figurines carved out of wood…that is just…lame. I was expecting Carl to use that knife for something all disturbed adolescent like carving “Lori” into his arm and filling it with ink for a homemade tattoo.
3. Andrea really did become a bad ass. I wonder if we’ll get to see an epic throwdown if things go south with Magna?! That would be awesome!

Here’s the most important thing: I am self-employed professional who also has an intern, and I’m telling you, this is too much responsibility for an intern. The crushing weight of making decisions will quite possibly ruin any hopes he had for his career in… in… what exactly are you interning for, Stephan?
Many people are saying this mirrors Negan, but I don’t think that’s the case. This all has seemed eerily Governor-esque to me: nice community, welcoming to strangers, you can leave when you want, leave you weapons with us for a while, prisoners in the basement of the main “good guy’s” house. Magna is a type of the ambitious Rick Grimes and will act accordingly. I’m loving the role-reversal, even if we on the outside know that’s not actually the case.
Hopefully Magna doesn’t blow out of the volcano.. 😛

i really disliked the beginning of this arch but this was an awesome issue and i finally think i can embrace “happiness” in TWD. this is the kind of thing i wanted to see when i think more about it, the world rebuilding itself, this is just a part of that.. a much brighter and happier part. Loved seeing Mikey get some spotlight this issue! it made me really happy to see him trying to make ol nick proud. So who else was thinking “awwww shit Carl gonna try and kill Negan!” when he pulled out the knife and was kind of insinuating towards his kills in the past… awesome moment. the ending kind of spooked me out too, what will happen if/when magna finds negan and questions him.. will he gain some allies to overthrow rick???

I was very easily tricked by the whole woodcarving bit. I was 100% sure that is was something far worse that Carl would show Josh. I liked that of all the hobbies on the planet that’s what Carl picked up. I was overall impressed with the issue. Not a whole lot of big events, but it was progressive. Very excited to see more of the story with the two guys from the Hilltop. I’m assuming we’ll see them much more in #130. My only complaint is that we still haven’t seen Michonne. Grrr.
YAYY first time commenting on here…hey intern Stephan, I’m sure your doing a great job with whatever they have you doing! Issue 128 wow so many interesting things in this issue its hard to pick just one to focus in on but first…what an amazing issue and i think essential issue also. Much to be discussed for sure. I really liked seeing the Mill and that line “Bread will soon be more valuable than bullets.” so great. we are finally seeing the Rick Grimes we’ve in a way always wanted…he’s the man with the plan, and that plan being restore civilization and humanity! It looks in 128 that he’s done that. It’s pretty much obvious Magna is going to be looking for our Survivors hiding ANYTHING, so Negan being in the basement is not necessarily a good thing for our Survivors. My final thoughts and predictions- Magna learns of Negan through these “newest people” shes going to be looking for which may lead her to Carl, him being the closest one to Negan and son of Rick Grimes. She then may question him on where they are keeping this “POW” or why they are keeping this “POW” makes sense to me because he is a kid and she may think she can take advantage of his being a teenager. All in All Ricks community looks to be thriving thats all i can really say because we have yet to see Michonne, Dwight, Ezekial and many others even Maggie…

What has me on edge is the terror that is Negan. While I respect Rick for keeping him alive, I fear the newcomers are going to set him free. I feel that moving forward Rick is Batman and Negan is Joker. This has me absolutely terrified.

I have to say that Magna will find Negan unknown to her that he is a MASS MURDERER and she going to think that he is good and he will be free, bringing chaos to Rick group. We all thought in the preview that Carl will cause a jailbreak but no he like unicorns and tigers made from wood. Eugene and Rosita relationship looks like Andrea and Dale Prison relationship, NO TRUST. For the end I KNOW WHEN NEGAN IS FREE HE WILL RULE AGAIN THE SAVIORS KILLING DWIGHT AND REUNITING WITH HER LOVELY LUCILE.

Alright after reading #128 i already know the direction there going with the current saga. — Since Manga’s group wants to pretty much find out what Rick’s community is hiding. They’re eventually going to sneak into a few houses and find Negan locked up behind bars. And since they want a reaction from someone who’s actually been to this community outside of said community. They’re gonna spring him free out of Jail. While Rick and Company go to the hilltop. In case your wondering. Robert Kirkman’s writing really is THAT transparent. Either that or we both share the same brand of Intellectual Genius. Anywho All out war 2.0 here we come.

Well after seeing the current issue it isnt so much up for debate as its exactly how it came about. Infact hell even Robert Kirkman just showed us this is exactly how its going down. All in all I called it a mile away.

for me the whole issue with Magna mirrors what rick did with Douglas , its perfectly reasonable for Magna not to trust Rick and his group, do i think that the story will follow the exact same route, NO, do i think there is something that Magna and her group are not telling us about what they had to do to survive, YES, is it all going to end in tears, PROBABLY. Interested to see what Kirkman revels next issue about the time jump? I thought 2 years was to short just from the look of Rick, I mean he looked way older, but then some characters had hardly changed i.e Andrea, so who knows. Kirkman has always been vague about how much time is passing in TWD so I dont expect a whole lot of detail on this.

LOVE Rick’s new look. Our hero will never be useless. He’s been kicking ass with one hand for a while now and I’m pretty certain that cane is sharpened to a deadly point. He’s walking around with two walker-skewers at all times. Trust me–he’s good.
We get to slow down for a little while…look at the personal issues…get to relearn these characters in a somewhat state of normalcy & personal growth/change…making it truly realistic…all the while, moving towards more unpredictability & the next big event. great issue, I like these “character building” issues that establish the new group, it just seems like I read through this issue too quickly. These kinds of issues should be released bi-monthly at the least. This is too much like torture, you know, getting to little information over too long of a time period.

Well my day has been one for the ages. Wake up for work find out the starter went so end up being late and getting my butt chewed thoroughly. Next up was chewing some gum just to have a filling fall out and get stuck in said gum. Finally lunch comes and I get a ride to my local comic shop to finally get the only good thing all day the new twd 128. Nope the shop shipment got messed up and won’t be in for another week ahh… Anyways worst day fml moments. Hopefully the extra wait will be worth it

i think maggie wont be in it till 130 because those characters that were in the horse situation are from hilltop and they’re on the cover
I believe, because of the note about the time jump at the beginning of Letter Hacks, we’re gonna see somebody’s baby. Rick & Carl are on their way to Hilltop….maybe 129 finds them there or maybe we visit The Kingdom for a bit & get back to Hilltop in 130.

Do I trust Magna? Define the word “trust”. I don’t think Magna is some crazy, evil woman but she’s clearly got her own agenda. My guess is that Negan somehow manipulates Magna into freeing him. She’ll think they’re in cahoots but Negan will likely kill her immediately after she lets him out….
I find hard to believe that Magna can free Negan and lead an uprising in a seemingly peaceful community. Not to mention that all sister communities are in peace with one another. I think there will be some controversy over Negan but nothing to lead to another war. Negan treated his people like shit and now that everyone is growing gardens and there is bread again and the community is expanding while nobody is dying from bullets and having their house burned down…the threat has been reduced to harvesting and walkers, and people are becoming integral parts of the community-who’s gonna want to disrupt that? Negan will be killed along with any other upstart that may follow because he will not gain a big following. I don’t trust Magna because she is too much like Rick and Rick is a bad ass, the only difference is Rick has a bigger following.

I am a newbie to the comic, loyal AMC Walking Dead fan. Very pleased that the two year gap into a new arc is a great jump in point for us newbies. Of course I will go back and consume every prior issue up to #127, of course! But I do love this new Magna character already, in what liitle we know, she’s already being set up as a new female-version Rick by the way her group has been shown to respond to her and respect her as leader. (WYay for the girls!!). As for my own personal giddiness toward the new character….IM SO HAPPY THERES FINALLY A CHARACTER I CAN COSPLAY!!!!!!!!!
So has it been 2 years or not? The letter hacks in 128 seem to say otherwise. How long has it been since the war?
