Hey guys. I’m gonna change the format a bit here this week. Let me know if you prefer the write-ups to be like this or like last week’s style (poll at end of post). Really it comes down to the purpose of this post: Is it a jumping off point for discussion or is it a means to actually read a full description of the episode for people that missed it? Anyway, here we go and please answer the poll after!

Last week on AMC’s The Walking Dead:
-Rick and Carl took refuge in a seemingly safe neighborhood while Rick healed. Carl went out on his own and got in a few scrapes but managed to get by alone. Michonne tracked them and at episode’s end, arrived at their house. The whereabouts and status of the rest of the cast is left unknown. Which brings us to…

This week on AMC’s The Walking Dead:
-Beth is alive! Daryl is alive! And they’re together and on the run. Daryl is sullen and pessimistic. Beth forces him to help her track people from the prison. The tracks lead to train tracks, where walkers are finishing a fresh meal. Daryl kills the walkers and they move on.

-Lizzie and Mika are alive! And they’re with Tyreese! And Judith! Lil Ass Kicker lives! Mika is scared and wants Carol. Lizzie is calm and seemingly in control. Tyreese temporarily leaves them when he hears shouts nearby and Lizzie almost suffocates Judith when she starts crying (and just blankly stares while she does it—hmmm).
-Carol is alive! She finds Lizzie and Mika in the woods with Judith and then joins up with Tyreese.
-A bitten man tells them to follow the tracks to a safe place.
-They see a makeshift sign: “SANCTUARY FOR ALL/ COMMUNITY FOR ALL/ THOSE THAT ARRIVE SURVIVE” And then on a map a location is marked: TERMINUS.

-Maggie is alive! Bob Stookey and Sasha are alive! They’re all together by a stream. Sasha doesn’t believe that Tyreese made it. Bob is hopeful. Maggie is withdrawn. She’s intent on going after the bus.
-Bob insists on going with her.
-They find the bus. Abandoned and full of walkers. One-by-one they let the walkers off and kill them. No Glenn but…

-Glenn is alive! We see him on a destroyed bridge at the prison, walkers everyone. He checks the cells for survivors, gras his personal affects, and suits up in riot gear.
-Tara is alive! As Glenn leaves the prison he comes across her. She doesn’t even want to leave, consumed by guilt from joining the Governor. Glenn convinces her to help him get out of the prison.
-Glenn finds out that Hershel was executed. Heart-breaking.
-Glenn collapses while fighting off some walkers and then a large military truck pulls up and…
-ABRAHAM! “You got a damn mouth on you, you know that? What else you got?”
-Credits

Wow, Abraham is here and he brought Rosita and Eugene with him! Comic fans are freaking out and TV fans are like, “who?” Luckily we have a primer for you if you want to know a bit more about Sgt Abraham Ford. AND it just so happens we have an Abraham Army Merch Pack as well (plug plug)!

What did you guys think about tonight’s episode?
Two big themes I noticed: 1) a few times we’re reminded of the safety of the prison and the complete lack of safety on the open road. 2) Through both Beth, Maggie, and Glenn we see that Hershel’s faith and optimism lives on in the people he loved.

It really is cool that there is a baby on a show about zombies, but actually, it would probably be the worst thing that the show has ever done if (when) they kill a baby off. That is so disgracefully appalling to me.

Can’t understand why they planned a getaway on the bus but not a meeting place in the event of separation. I can’t imagine a sickly Glenn making it back to the prison. But, despite that, the good stuff:
Sure glad to see Carol back!
Sure thought Lizzie was gonna kill Judith!
Excited to see Abraham, Eugene, & Rosita!
Will be pining away for the next episode!

I was thinking the same thing while watching this episode and when I read the comic; they should have had a meeting place planned. And Glenn never left the prison. He got off the bus before it left (he stated this in the episode)

Brian, the purpose of these posts for me is a jumping off point for discussion (I never miss an episode, and if I did, I’d watch it before I read about it). I do read all of the Recap, regardless of how much is written, but I have to say that I love the polls. I enjoy when there’s a mix of things on this site. I’ve been here from day one & I think you guys have done very well with it!

Okay, does anybody else think the Lizzie & Mika storyline will be like the Ben & Billy one from the comics? At this point, I could definitely see it. But the question is, would AMC go that far??

    Reply
    • Gavin Zawacki says:

My answer to that: Definitely. They’ve allowed some pretty gruesome, terrible things so far, so this wouldn’t be really bad, but I do agree with you about Lizzy/ Mika & Ben/Billy.

Yeah Carl is gonna have to take that little one out soon. She about killed Judith. Also, i know it wont be till so. 5 But i cant wait for (insert antagonists name here) so spoilers: ) but i wanna know who is going to play him in the show. Thoughts?

I too have been thinking that Lizzy and Mika share some themes with the twins, but I almost don’t think you can have spoilers because it is so different.

My wife asked me “if this happened in the comic” referring to the terminus sign.

Well by this point in the comic Tyrese and his lover Carol and baby Judith are dead, and the girls do not appear in the comic.

But if you think of them as Billy and Ben, they are being taken care of by Andrea, and peg leg Dale in the camper.

And the wicked witch of the west already sent the flying monkeys in bell hop uniforms to attack the scarecrow.

Heres what i think will happen: Daryl will lose tyreses trail assuming they were thw body’s by the tracks, he will pick up Rick and.Carl’s tracks and find them inthe safety of the nearest town. Now that Maggie and bob ares on that bigger road where the bus is she will stick with that. Now that glenn is with #AbrahamsArm . He will run in to Maggie because that huge vehicle ha to stay on main roads.they will also go to the nearest town and find activity just like michonne. Did and be able to find what house they are in or they will approach Abraham them selfs seeing Glenn and Maggie. So far EVERYONE has made a nice little reunion. But Carol Tyrese lizzie mika and Judith are (as you said) expendable at this point. They will find sanctuary and now that Carol has deceived Tyrese shes not going to let him find the out the truth. He will be aginst rick after meeting negan saying “wow rick never had THIS, even at the prison” and wil stay with her.little “Carol Crew ” . But we know that the “sanctuary” is actually the farthest thing from salvation. Rick/Abrahams army will meet up with hilltop, and they will let rick know their situation with the “saviors” and will as for help. Now by this point negan has Judith in at least arms reach at any time. He will use her as a bargaining chip to Rick. But Rick will just TAKE what is rightfully his and that will be that my friends will be the beginning of All Out War. Id say with the pace they are going. All Out War will be a season 5 mid season premiere. And it won’t get good and interesting by 6. Thank you thank you. So far all my predictions have been on track so we will see how this goes. Thoughts? Comments?

Mine are more hopes than predictions. I would like if the rest of season 4 is the characters trying to meet up with one another and maybe finding that Terminus community. That’s it. In truth, I don’t want to see The Hunters this season. The show is honestly moving way too fast. I feel they could have done much more with the prison storyline but they wanted to get straight to The Governor (which I did not mind), but the way they ended it……blah.
Anyway, I want character development. Trust me, I love the man v man conflicts as much as the next guy, but a little too much…..
Again, seeing stuff like the Lizzie & Mika thing and the Carol Tyresse stuff play out along with the introduction of Abraham and the gang should hold us over. I also want to get to know Tara, Beth, Sasha, Bob etc. I want to know and like(or dislike) the secondary characters. I don’t want all these people all killed off in three episodes.
I’m thinking this Gareth character they’ve cast may be a mix of Chris from the comics and others. They might introduce The Hunters and keep them around for the next season(please do), he is scheduled for season 5 as well. Please don’t force all this stuff down our throats.
And if we’re going to do prediction for future seasons here are mine(again these are hopes). I would like the next season to be about the trip to DC and The Hunters. There is definitely a way to have The Hunters hunt the group for an entire season. Maybe conflicting with this Terminus community, stalking them and stuff. Season 6 should be the introduction of the Alexandria Safe-Zone. All the stuff that happens around civilized people and stuff. They could add robbers and stuff, but again stick with characters acknowledging they are a part of a larger world and other communities. Then season 7 is when we meet all the awesome people: Negan, Jesus, Ezekiel, etc. All the awesomeness that goes with that like…..I don’t know…..ALL OUT WAR!!!!!!
After that, well, we’ll have plenty of things to predict or guess by then. Anyway, these are my hopes for future seasons. We shall see if The Hunters are in this season or not, but whatever happens, happens.

          • Tyler Scott Powell says:

im sure the hunters won come into the show. that ended to gruesome for some viewers i mean it mortified a priest. but also that Terminus Community isnt a good thing… first off let me explain why. dont ask me why i know this but Terminus in Hindi means end of the line, the last stop, dont pass go, dont collect anymore zombie head shots. that doesnt mean salvation is near. you have got to remember in the book who the “Saviors” are trying to offer salvation.. yeah, the name of Negan’s colony is The Terminus Community. so im sure the hunters wont come in and Negan is the next antagonist. i mean no offense to anyone that has read the comics because they never actually call Negan’s Community by name in the comics. But yes thats its name. i love this show and the comics and ive studied everything i can about it. that maybe the reason why my predictions are mostly on point. and also anyone that is a Carol fan, im sorry but i wished she would have offed herself a while ago. but now i see why they kept her. shes going to befriend Negan and when Rick comes a running to get his baby, neither of them are going to WANT to give her up. Carol’s reason? she took care of that baby and has saved her more then Rick ever has. it might as well be replacement Sophia. Negan’s reason? as long as i have your baby i can get what i want from you and yours or ill hurt/kill her. and that my friend is the brink of ALL OUT WAR.

Bare with me here, but think Greek mythology. Aphrodite promises the solider Paris the most beautiful woman in the world. Helen of Troy, formally Helen of Sparta. the Trojan war is fought over this one woman just to get her back to Sparta. but it wasnt until the Greeks sent in the Tojian horse and took over Troy that Helen was given back to her original husband Menelaus. Now replace this story with these names.
            Aphrodite: Carol
            Paris: Negan
Menelaus and his Trojans: Rick and the gang
and you guessed it… Helen of Troy: Judith

So needless to say but im going to anyways because i love references, Judith, “The Face that launched a thousand Survivors”

Absolutely. I have thought that for weeks. One thing I wonder: d’you think Carol saw Lizzie trying to smother Judith? Would be interesting if that dovetails with some people’s theories that Lizzie killed David and Karen and Carol copped to it to protect her. Perhaps now Carol has caught Lizzy’s at it again and is forced to cover up for her. Again. Either way, though, dat Lizzy one craaaaazy bitch.

The walker that got Carl’s shoe crawled out of the window & took the shoe with him, lol! Seriously, I think Beth just saw that it was a small shoe…so she got upset that it was obviously a child’s. For a moment there, I thought that they moved forward a little when we saw Lizzie & Mika & that was actually Mika’s shoe.

Glenn was impressive this episode thinking about getting all the supplies was very smart also was really glad he went back for Tara I like her character. Tyreese went up a few notches in my book taking care of the children . Bob had a great idea about letting the walkers out one by one and keeping the group together.. Overall this was a great episode.

No, Abraham doesnt know Maggie, therefore is not interested in finding her. Abraham is always practical, and the odds of Maggie being alive are as slim as anyone’s. Expending the energy to find her is something Abraham will not abide, especially since his mission is to get Eugene to D.C. I think Beth will make another attempt at suicide, a la comic Maggie, because she all but told her diary she would, if the prison fell.

I get that Abraham is always practical, but that “she’s gone” reminded me of when he told Glenn that and wanted to end her for good before Rick put his gun to him and told him to stop. I would rather what you said be what happens, but I’m not sure. He doesn’t have to be looking for her. They could stumble across something while on their journey. They are all pretty close right now and crossing each other’s paths just missing each other so they might run into her down the road.

I thought the zombie fights at the start of the show were pretty pedestrian. The walker that attacked Beth looked like he was trying to look down her shirt instead of bite her. The fight at the tracks was pretty sad, too. To go from the well thought out effort and choreography of Michonne’s slaughter in the previous episode made this one look like a phone in effort.

Until Glenn’s scene, that is. Brilliant action and the switch to the point of view camera from within the helmet after he forced his way through, zombie smudges on the visor and all, was great. Abraham and company showing up a little earlier than I expected was a nice little surprise. I wish they would have had some time left over to show which one of the injured/flu patients turned and started the take down of the bus. Those were good people! We deserved to see the die twice!

Loved this episode but agreed on the zombies…. What happened to the walkers like the one who RIPPED Dale apart? i thought that scratches are as bad as bites! I havnt seen one zombie claw someone apart since then, it seems like they want to hold hands now instead. Literally almost every character should have died by now if the zombies remembered how to claw or scratch people like in the earlier seasons instead of light tugs or grabs 😛 They seem to be extremely slow now(Tyrese hammertime scene) and almost cannon fodder. For real if you die to a walker at this point in the show thats embarrassing. (girl carol and rick ran in to and lilly :P)

The way I reason through sluggish walkers is that they’re slooowwwwly starving & getting more sluggish…the old ones anyway. The ones that pop out of nowhere are probably more newly turned.

for me the whole part of the Maggie story lacked any sort of concern for glen, not because of bad story telling or because of a bad episode, but because of the fact that AMC / FOX in UK had shown a clip of Glen still in the prison before the episode aired so I knew the whole time that I was watching it that Glen was not on the bus! took all the suspense out of that scene. Anyway, a really good episode, you can really see the the two girls mirroring the Ben and & Billy story from the comics, great to see Carol back, not to sure about the Abraham, Rosita and Eugene they just looked a bit to styled like the comic book, not like they had been living a zombie apoc for the last god knows how long early days for them and still time for them to develop . anyway love the show and this was still a really good episode.

Did you notice early in the show the Walker that attacks Beth in the Woods and Daryle kills is the guy that Tyrese tries to save, but leaves him at the railroad tracks after he gets bit?

You were right. Daryl & Beth were obviously tracking Ty & the girls but they showed Daryl & Beth first.

Did anyone notice when the walker attacked Daryl and Beth when his shirt raised up a little you could see his normal belly not a zombie belly

Does anyone else notice that the survivors are grouped according to their base characteristics like-
    1) Deryl and Beth- They don’t exist in the comics
    2) Carol and Tyreese and Judith- In the comics they were dead at this point
3)Rick, Carl And Mishone- It was so in the comics

(Don’t read this comment if you don’t want spoilers from the comics or potential spoilers for upcoming episodes!) I just went back and read the What We Become and Fear the Hunters graphic novels and realized Father Gabriel refers to his church as “Sanctuary” a couple of times. I think they will be doing the Hunters storyline, but I don’t think Terminus (the place they keep referring to as Santuary) will be the Hunters luring people, I think it will be Father Gabriel (or a character based on him) bringing people in but when they find him he will probably have been attacked recently, which will lead into the cannibal storyline. Just my prediction, which has a good chance of being wrong.

Thanks for spoiler alert… that’s respectful. I read somewhere about a new character “Gareth”. I was wondering if this character is going to take the place of Gabriel.

That’s what I was thinking too. They said he would be a remix of a character from the comic so I figured it would be Gabriel but we would be introduced to him in a different context or something.
